Superior Avenue Historic District
Historic Preservation Month Tours
60-Minunte Stroll Tour
May | Saturdays | 1-2pm
This tour highlights how preservation has been key to the district’s revitalization—demonstrating how honoring Cleveland’s historic fabric continues to inspire reinvestment, reuse, and a vibrant urban future.
Step into the heart of Cleveland’s former garment district—once second only to New York City’s—on this guided exploration of the Superior Avenue Historic District. This 23-building corridor, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, reveals a powerful story of industry, immigration, and growth.
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, this area thrived as a hub of garment manufacturing, fueling the city’s economy and providing jobs for thousands of immigrant workers. Today, its enduring architecture—brick warehouses, commercial blocks, and early 20th-century design details—stands as a testament to that legacy.
Today, these historic buildings are experiencing a new chapter. Former warehouses and commercial spaces have been thoughtfully transformed into modern apartments, offices, and workplaces—including the headquarters of CrossCountry Mortgage and a new Cleveland Police Department facility. These beautifully renovated spaces blend historic character with contemporary design, showing how preservation can power both economic growth and everyday life in the city.
