NEW! Edgewater Neighborhood

60-Minute Stroll Tour

August | Thursdays | 6:30pm

Explore Cleveland’s Edgewater neighborhood, where the city’s relationship with Lake Erie has been evolving for more than 150 years. The early story of this area begins along a very different shoreline, where in the late 19th century, grand estates and mansions stretched from Lake Avenue to the water’s edge—offering uninterrupted lake views and establishing Edgewater as an enclave of wealth and retreat.

Hear the story of Jacob B. Perkins, a local industrialist and horse breeder, who sold his lakefront land to Cleveland’s Second Park Board in 1894—paving the way for the development of Edgewater Park and the adjacent beach.

Today, Edgewater blends historic charm with accessible waterfront, where the legacy of lakefront estates and Perkins Beach lives on in one of Cleveland’s most beloved public spaces—and a shoreline still shaped by time and change.
