Take a Hike: Summer Series Tour

August + September | Saturdays | 10am

Discover the roots of Cleveland’s commercial and industrial legacy in the Cleveland Centre Historic District, located in The Flats. Once envisioned as the city’s central hub, this area’s strategic position along the Cuyahoga River fueled early growth through waterways, canals, and railroads. Learn about the ambitious—but ultimately unsuccessful—Gravity Place Plan and how transportation and trade shaped the district’s development. You'll also hear stories of shifting priorities over time, from industrial might to environmental recovery and recreation, including rowing, skateparks, and green space revitalization. Along the way, we'll reflect on how history, preservation, and community investment continue to shape this evolving corner of Cleveland.
