Brookmere Cemetery
60-Minute Stroll Tour
October | Saturdays | 1:00pm
Step beyond the iron gates of Brookmere Cemetery in Old Brooklyn. Founded in the mid-1800s, the cemetery is home to beautiful monuments, ornate family plots, and headstones that reflect the ornamentation and symbolism of the era. Many of those buried here were German immigrants and their families, whose names still live on in the neighborhood’s streets today. Discover the stories etched in stone and how this resting place continues to connect past and present in our community.
Today, the grassroots efforts of sisters Linda and Karen who have ancestors buried here, have a made significant impact to the cemetery as work has both physically improved Brookmere Cemetery and educated and informed the public as they advocate for its historic preservation.
This tour is made possible in collaboration with Brookmere Cemetery Preservation Coalition.
