90-Minute Signature Tour
Aug + Sept | Sundays | 10am
Explore Shaker Square, one of the nation’s earliest planned shopping districts and a landmark of early 20th-century design. Developed by the Van Sweringen brothers, the square reflects a vision of a connected, transit-oriented neighborhood anchored by twin plazas and distinctive architecture.
American Colonial buildings frame the space with arcades, tile roofs, and decorative detailing that create a strong sense of place.
Along the way, discover how careful planning, landscape design, and rapid transit shaped not just a retail district, but a lasting neighborhood center—where architecture and community life have been closely linked for nearly a century.
In 1976 Shaker Square, the oldest shopping district in Ohio and the second oldest in the nation, was listed in the Natl. Register of Historic Places.
